Available Online – Free! In the past two decades, horrific mass shootings have been thrust into public consciousness. Mitigating the effects of these events is the responsibility of those who serve in our communities’ public safety organizations. The public expects an effective and swift response to these threats. Research has shown, however, that many of the mass attacks, or active attack events, are over before law enforcement responders arrive on the scene.Civilians who find themselves embroiled in such an event must be prepared to take immediate action to save their own lives before law enforcement arrives. The average response time for police response to an active attack event is three minutes. Without effective, pre-planned response options for civilians at the scene of the attack, many victims can be seriously injured or killed during these three minutes. This online course was designed in conjunction with Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) to provide first responders and other professionals with a model response program they can deliver to civilians within their communities. The goal of all police work is to protect the lives, property, safety, and well-being of the public. Traffic law enforcement is no exception. Research shows that excessive speed is a major contributing factor to motor vehicle crashes. Further, excessive speed increases the severity of the crashes that do occur.
RADAR is an important and effective means of accurately establishing vehicle speed. In recent decades, RADAR technology has been advanced significantly. Its cost-effectiveness has continued to improve as well. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) believes that police traffic RADAR is an effective enforcement tool. Police traffic RADAR provides a means of increasing enforcement effectiveness and permits police administrators to make better use of scarce personnel and costly fuel.
The overall goal of this course is to improve the effectiveness of speed enforcement through the proper and efficient use of police traffic RADAR speed measurement instruments. Every officer who successfully completed this course will become a better instructor and enforcer of the traffic laws governing vehicle speed.

This 40-hour Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) practitioners’ course, is accredited by the International CPTED Association (ICA). CPTED is a multi-disciplinary approach of crime prevention that utilizes urban planning and architectural design, in conjunction with the management of man-made and natural environments, to better support the use of the built environment and community participation to improve the quality of life in communities. CPTED strategies aim to deter opportunistic criminal activity, reduce victimization, and build a sense of community so that individuals can maintain control over, and promote legitimate use of spaces, reduce crime, and minimize the fear of crime. This course will enable participants to apply these strategies and principles to create safer and sustainable communities. The goal of this comprehensive training is to give the attendees the skills to review plans and drawings, analyze the threats and problems, get collaborative input by key resource persons, develop strategies that create safer environments, and improve the quality of life.
CPTED is used to alter and expand the participant’s perception of the immediate physical and social environment. By altering the perception of the physical environment, the participant will be more capable of understanding the direct relationship of the environment to human behavior, and to crime.
